What are payouts and how do they work?

A payout is a transfer of funds to a bank account in the form of a deposit. For you to receive funds, Stripe makes payouts to the bank account associated with your Stripe account during the AirPOS Pay registration.

AirPOS Pay payout schedule

All AirPOS Pay accounts are automatically set to a daily rolling payout schedule.

This means, when you take a transaction with AirPOS Pay, the net amount gets paid into your Stripe account immediately, and the payout process begins the next day.

The funds will then take three business days to reach your account. Please note that business days exclude weekends. This is due to the way banks operate. AirPOS Pay cannot do anything to speed this up.

For example:

  • You take a payment on a Tuesday.
  • The funds from the payment will reach your Stripe express account immediately.
  • The payout for the funds processed on Tuesday initiates the next day - Wednesday.
  • These funds will take three business days to reach your bank account - (1) Wednesday, (2) Thursday, and then the payment arrives on (3) Friday.

The initial payout

Payout availability can vary based on the industry and country you’re operating in. In most cases, when you start processing live payments from your customers with AirPOS Pay, you won’t receive your initial payout until 7 days after receiving your first successful payment. Subsequent payouts are being paid out following your payout schedule.

Routinely, other payment processors such as Square or PayPal have been known to lock accounts and withhold funds without warning or reason and are entitled to do so if accounts are suspected of fraudulent activity.

To avoid this eventuality, this initial delay allows Stripe to mitigate some of the risks inherent in providing credit services. This reduces the probability of future payouts being withheld.

Are payouts taking longer than they should?

The first payout may take longer for a number of reasons, including your country or being in a high-risk industry. Processing subsequent payouts then happen according to your account’s payout schedule.

The primary reason for a payout delay is incomplete account verification. Specifically, there may be outstanding account verification requirements that the Stripe client hasn’t yet completed. These may be related to tax data or banking information that hasn’t yet been entered or processed into the Stripe account.

If you’re experiencing payout delays, we advise you to check your dashboard or email to see if Stripe has requested additional information concerning your account.

It’s an emergency, I need cash now!

If you need access to your funds immediately, we can perform an instant payout in cases of emergencies. Instant payouts release the desired amount of funds from your Stripe account to your bank.

You can request Instant Payouts 24/7, including weekends and holidays, and funds typically appear in your associated bank account within 30 minutes.

However, we advise that you use this feature sparingly as there is a 1% fee for the amount that you wish to instantly payout.
